plants and update
It's been a while since I've written anything here. THIS will change, I promise. Recently I've taken too much on myself. Having two blogs, facebook page, new collection to draw and print and a commission for an illustration project that You'll hear about very soon was a bit much. All of these plus a double mothering forced me to abandon the virtual side of the brand. That's why I've decided to close down my other blog (www.ohantek.blogspot.com) that was created mostly for my parents to keep them up to date with the kiddos.
So, to make things going here I will have few regular posts such as Illustration inspiration, personal pictures, work progress, interviews and casual healthy meals recipe. How does it sounds?
On the other note I am obsessed with gardening at the moment. All I needed was few sunny days, and although it's cold again, I'm hooked. I'm a beginner tho. Since I left the house with a big garden in national park as a child, I lived in flats in UK for years and recently we moved to a flat with a backyard and I want to make all nice for the kids with some greens and space to eat outside. The space isn't big but I have lots of ideas and I need to say that digging in the soil give me huge satisfaction.
On that note I'll give You a hint that the new collection will consist of plants. I'm thinking: ferns, philodendrons like cheeseplants and such. Beauties!

Day dreaming
I am a daydreamer. It isn't a bad thing. I'm happy with what I've got. Hoping daydreaming become my future. I'm dreaming of a simple living. Slow life with hens, fruit and vegatable garden and little workspace for my illustrations and crafts. Slow food. Countryside. Rural landscape. Walks. Nature. Family life. It doesn't seems much but is enough for me...
When I discovered Nikki McClure, it was like a ray of morning sunlight. Suddenly my own childhood memory flashed in front of my eyes and my own motherhood of raising my son close to nature. My son loves our recent purchase, her book "Is it summer yet?". Simple life can be so inspiring, especially when so close to nature. The ilustrations are paper cuts which makes it even more impressive. Her work depicts simple living, motherhood, parental life, farmers life; everyday tasks and duties but also a celebration of life; laying in the grass, stopping to contemplate the peace and beauty of nature. We absolutely fell in love with that book, so there is more to be ordered...

The Gardener
This weekend I'm starting my art project 'The Gardener' (working title). The idea poped to my head long time ago, around autumn time last year I suppose. Only now, when a bit of warmth and sunshine came out I found myself atracted again to this idea.
PLOT (to follow)
This weekend I'm going to film at my friends allotment. I'll be digging, planting and dancing. We'll see whats gonna come out of that... I have no idea what I'll be doing... Never done an art video before, but it feels like a right tool to express myself.
Plants research.
It will vary from what I can get on the green market and if it's the right time to plant them but these are the flowers that I would like to use in the project. I would also like to plant some herbs and maybe even stick some artificial flowers, but I'll see as I go...
Lily of the valley. They once were my favourite flowers. Only when reading about them today I found out how poisonous they are. The Christian legend says that the flower is also known as Mary's tears that it sprang from the weeping of the Virgin Mary during the crucifixion of Jesus. Other etiologies its coming into being from Eve's tears after she was driven with Adam from the Garden of Eden or from the blood shed by Saint Leonard of Noblac during his battles with a dragon. In europe the flower was percieved as a symbol of youth and prosperity. I think I would go with this meaning plus a personal statement.
Carnation. Pink carnations have the most symbolic and historical significance. According to a Christian legend, carnations first appeared on Earth as Jesus carried the Cross. The Virgin Mary shed tears at Jesus' plight, and carnations sprang up from where her tears fell. Thus the pink carnation became the symbol of a mother's undying love. I want to create motherhood conotations with that flower.
Hibiscus is a symbol of beauty and fertility. The tea is popular as a natural diuretic; it contains vitamin C and minerals, and is used traditionally as a mild medicine. In the Indian traditional system of medicine, Ayurveda, hibiscus, especially white hibiscus and red hibiscus, is considered to have medicinal properties. The roots are used to make various concoctions believed to cure ailments such as cough, hair loss or hair greying. I would like to use this plant to symbolise fertility and senescence (as an unescapable part of our live).
Rosemary. In the Middle Ages, rosemary was associated with wedding ceremonies. The bride would wear a rosemary headpiece and the groom and wedding guests would all wear a spring of rosemary, and from this association with weddings, rosemary evolved into a love charm. Newlywed couples would plant a branch of rosemary on their wedding day. If the branch grew, it was a good omen for the union and family.
Incurve Chrysanthemums are symbolic of death and are used only for funerals or on graves, while other types carry no such symbolism... As part of a cycle of life this meaning would be quite significant although I'm not sure if I prefer a motherhood theme as a leading subject of the project.

note to myself
Recently I had an idea for a video.
Knitting life.
Or life knitted. With own arms. In forest. By the river. Surrounded by the trees. Peace and quiet. Yarn. A nice soft and thick yarn. Red and blue, just like the vains in our bodies. Few bits and pieces attached to the yarn. Everyday objects, significant and emotionally attached to my life. Symbols for me, my family, my roots, my interests. Generalisation of human existence. Us humans as collectors of objects. Objects that got so personalised they become us and part of us, and to our vains. All of this is happening at a beautiful nature landscape. Does it just seem to be unnoticeable. We are all connected yet being too apart. We are after all part of the landscape, part of the nature. Yet the emotional attachment goes towards hectic-ness of possessing. We always seem to braid a plait of our lives, its never perfect, sometimes uneven, sometimes too short. We knit our existence but what will happen when the yarn will finish...?

friends
I would like to introduce You to few of my favourite people and great artists:
Sabina Sallis is a video artist but also known for performance, paintings, illustrations and mothering two children. I only just met her but feels like I'd known her for years, and since now have a baby too, we've got quite a few things in common. Her works are great. The videos reminded me a crossroads between Pipilotti Rist and Mariko Mori. Her main inspiration is the relationship between human condition and nature and her works are truly amazing and she is as well. Creative and talented. Do check her website.

From time to time I would like to introduce You to my friends-artists who are simply wonderful and their work worth sharing with the world.

i heart infantilism
This amazing sculptures are made by Gilbert Legrand. What a creative mind he is, and really cool idea to recycle anything... So next time You're cleaning your house, consider every bit and bob twice, before throwing it away... He also takes photos of teeny tiny people that reminds me of my own little people jewelry and of the smallest and the largest in the world stop motion animation.
To understand how amazing this is, watch the making of...

Barbie art night talk
I had a long night time conversation with an old friend from Poland, Aleksandra Śliwczyńska-Kupidura. She's a photographer and artist, and she is practising her art under the name of PornOla. ( PornOla ). It was really magic as we haven't spoke in years... She shared with me few inspirational www.Most of all I loved the Barbie Art. This New York based artist, Margaux Lange makes jewelery out of barbie parts!!! It is amazing!! (Margaux Lange midges mind). I always loved the art of collage and combing body parts in different sense. I looked further and discovered barbie based photographic pastiche of famous paitings and photographs by artist Joceyne Grivaud. (Joceyne Grivaud)
It all reminded me of my childhood where I used to cut my barbie's hair and twisted their head, so they had no neck.
Our society is so diverse, we can swim in ideas and pop culture inspirations s s s. Milions of people living in our world, different societies that are inspiration for something new and creative. Although it might be common and obvious if You look from outside, the potential for innovative art is still myriad. Many ideas are constantly repeated without creating something new. For me, the ability to transform something into an innovative piece, that You haven't seen before, is what stands for ART.
